The 2018-2019 theme "Heroes Around Me" will spark imagination and creativity in school and at home. Encourage your school to imagine, create and celebrate with Reflections during National Arts & Humanities Month this October.

As you all know, the arts allow children to unleash their creative talents, express themselves imaginatively, and tap into critical thinking skills to create art.   The PTA Reflections contest is way we can encourage creative arts in school.

We would encourage you to talk to your child about participating.   To participate, a student will create an original piece of art (film, dance/choreography, music composition, photography, visual arts - painting, drawing, sculpture) in keeping with the theme What is Your Story?”. (see content Rules HERE)  If your child participates, they will get a homework pass from me to use any day they can't do their homework or forget a signature.  :) The submission deadline is Thurs, Oct 27th.

Valley View will host an artist reception on the evening of Wed, Nov 7 to recognize our Valley View artists.  The contest winners across grades K-2nd and 3rd-5th will go on to the next level of competition at the District level and be recognized at the Pleasanton Reflection reception in early Dec at the Firehouse Performing Arts Center.

As an added bonus, if you don’t have the bandwidth to work on a project with your child, please consider registering him/her for the PTA Reflections Visual Art workshop with the focus of creating a visual art piece (drawing or painting).    Not into visual arts? Submissions for film, photography, choreography, music, sculpture, poetry and literature are also highly encouraged.

A visual art workshops will be held as follows.    The Valley View PTA is providing art supplies for students to participate.   Art assistance will be provided by parent volunteers.

  • Dates to be announced– Creation of Reflections Visual Arts submission
  • Children can struggle with creating their visual arts piece if they don’t have time to brainstorm and think about the theme in context of that they want to create.  Have your child spend time thinking about the theme and creating a sketch that he/she can bring to the workshop.  Art supplies (paper, pastels, watercolor, paint, etc) will be provided for children to work on their visual art submission.  In preparation for these workshops, please read the contest rules for Reflections Visual Art submissions found HERE and talk with your child about ideas for their project.

REGISTER NOW: There are limited spaces available so please register your child by sending an email toke.  This ensures we have enough supplies for all children in attendance.

To allow student artworks to be recognized and judged with the appropriate developmental age and skill levels in mind, the Reflections Program is organized into the following two divisions at Valley View: Primary (TK to Grade 2) and Intermediate (Grades 3 to 5). Rules for submissions can be found online at Reflections Entry Rules.
